The Guide to Australian Marine Life-2

In this chapter we find out there are more habitats besides open sea in which sea life thrive and survive. Estuaries and mangrove forests keep the coasts safe from storms and rough waves. In places where there are no walls or estuaries, the ocean scrapes away at the mainland, transforming it into a large cliff face. The habitat that I found most interesting was the tidal waterfalls. Depending on the time of day, the waterfall is either on one side or the other! I hope to find out what awesome creature live in these environments...

Every part of the sea has some form of life. Be it seaweed, crabs, whales, and dolphins. The ecosystem under the waves is affected by three key factors: temperature, sunlight, and ocean currents. While the sun can only give light and warmth for up to 200 ft below sea level, life continues to live among the darkness. however, life in the ocean is not easy; every 10 meters lower into the ocean applies about an entire atmosphere of pressure! since places like this are rare in Australia, we will not go into much more detail. Let the journey begin!

In this chapter Lusa's mother Ashia dies. She was very sick, and the people who run the zoo decide to put her out of her misery with a gun. It seems that all of these bears have had someone die in their family, which is a good connection! Maybe these deaths will bring them all together (the three main bears) in their journey for a place of happiness. This seems possible, but how will Lusa, a bear in the zoo, escape those concrete walls? I must read on!...

  A lot of sad events have happened in these three chapters. Toklo's sickly sibling Tobi has died, which leaves his mother in a rage, blaming him for not getting help. And in Lusa's story, she is feeling cooped up inside the zoo, and wishes to leave. Her mother says she has a solution, but it is just playing pretend and imagining they are in a forest. Despite the somewhat depressing tales, Kallik's story seems to be uplifting at the end. Despite her mother's death and loosing her older brother, she keeps on driving towards a place she does not know of: Land. She eventually gets there, and wishes her mom was there to tell her what is good or bad to eat. Unlike the others, Kallik the polar bear is the most alone, yet is the most positive.

Pages 59-65

In this part of the chapter Lusa climbs to the top of the tree inside her bear habitat. At the top, she see many different kinds of animals such as flamingos, monkeys, and tigers. Afterwards, she tells her mother about this, who suggests to tell king. King is the only one who come from the wild and remembers it. However, we all know bears don't live where flamingoes and tigers live, but king decides to lie a little and say that bears are better than all those animals, kings of the forest. Right after that, he gets angry at Lusa for constantly asking about the wild, and goes to his cave.

In this chapter, Kallik and her brother learn how to locate seal pups under a snow pile. The also have to swim short distances because of the ice's rapid disintegration. when Kallik's mother tries to help kallik across a big river, a pack of Orca whales kill her! now Kallik is motherless and on the other side, separated from her little brother. I predict that kallik's brother Taqqiq will not die and that they will meet later on in the story.

This chapter was about the last bear in the Trio named Toklo. Toklo is a brave and somewhat self-centered grizzly bear cub. Toklo always dreams of being a mighty bear that can do whatever he wants to. He is not happy with the fact that he and his mother Oka must stay in the valley of yucky dandelions because his brother Tobi is to sick for travel. There is a bit of hatred between Toklo and Tobi because Toklo feels like he just weighs the family down. I predict that Tobi might cause Oka to sacrifice her own life for him, which might make
Toklo abandon Tobi.
